Justice Department to monitor elections in three areas, including Riverside County

The Justice Department will monitor elections Tuesday in three areas, including Riverside County, to ensure they comply with federal voting-rights requirements, the agency announced Monday.

Voting will also be monitored in Middlesex County, N.J.; and Charles Mix and Shannon counties in South Dakota, the department announced.

Jurisdictions are required to provide language assistance under federal rules and law. In California and New Jersey, the agency said it will look to see if aid is offered in Spanish. In South Dakota, the language in question is Lakota, a native American language.
