China Daily reports that Friday’s Opening Ceremony at the futuristic Bird’s Nest stadium in Beijing could take place under overcast and cloudy skies -- and might see a shower or thunderstorm.

‘We exclude continuous heavy rains before and on the day of the opening ceremony,’ Wang Jianjie, deputy Director of Beijing Meteorological Bureau said at a Sunday press conference in Beijing. ‘However we don’t exclude that on the 8th of August there might be periodic rain.’

Detailed weather conditions for Friday won’t be available until Wednesday, Guo Hu, director of the Beijing Meteorological Observatory, said at the same press conference. The three-and-a-half-hour Opening Ceremony is scheduled for the Bird’s Nest stadium.

‘Even if there is a shower during the opening ceremony, the current technology can guarantee that the fireworks effect will not be affected,’ said Wang Yubin, deputy chief engineer of Beijing Meteorological Bureau.
