More than 6,000 athletes from 170 countries have checked into the Beijing Olympic village so far, Beijing Games organizers said on Tuesday. A total of 11,128 athletes from 205 countries are expected to spend some time in the village.

The complex features pool tables, tennis and basketball courts, a swimming pool, a recreation center, a library, coffee shops, a bank, a clinic and even its own fire station.

Athletes are staying in 3,276 apartments, each of which has three or four bedrooms. The standard bed is 6-foot-7 in length, but Yao Ming and other tall athletes will sleep on beds with extensions.
