BEIJING -- Serena Williams needed all of 44 minutes to advance to the third round of the Olympic tennis tournament with another easy victory, 6-2, 6-0, over Samantha Stosur of Australia.

Air quality will hardly be an issue for Williams if she needs no longer than that to win in her upcoming matches.

This is the first time Serena has participated in singles play in the Olympics. In 2000 she won a gold medal in doubles in Sydney with her sister Venus.

The top-ranked doubles team, Bob and Mike Bryan of Camarillo, needed only a little more time, 52 minutes, to win its first-round match, 6-2, 6-1, over Mark Knowles and Devin Mullings of the Bahamas.
