Lochte gets gold, world record in 200m backstroke

BEIJING -- Americans Ryan Lochte of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Aaron Peirsol of Irvine gave the U.S. gold and silver in the men’s 200-meter backstroke Friday.

Lochte’s time was 1 minute, 53.94 seconds, breaking the world record he shared with Peirsol by 0.38 seconds. Russia’s Arkady Vyatchanin won the bronze with a 1:54.93.
