Rep. John Doolittle (R-CA) is coasting to an apparent victory, with an early result showing the Jeffrey Combs lookalike racking up 56 percent of the vote in the Golden State’s fourth congressional district. Doolittle was the subject of the most entertaining attack ad of the 2006 election, which featured the unforgettable phrase, ‘It’s time for John Doolittle to stop tolerating forced abortions and sex slavery.’ More recently, Doolittle pioneered the diabolically clever voter-suppression strategy known as robocalling, wherein voters get harassed by cascading autocalls ostensibly coming from his opponent. Is Doolittle’s win a testament to the famously feisty folks of Modoc county, or an example of what a man can do if he’s able to walk with the animals, talk with the animals, grunt and squeak and squawk with the animals? Or does it just show that it’s easy to win when you’re running against Charlie Brown?
