Fifteen years ago, the new technology showcased by a controversial LAPD beating was the hand-held video camera. In 2006, more than 677,000 people have watched the following video on YouTube:

And this time, the LAPD has a blog, where you can read retired LAPD captain Greg Meyer, a national advisory board member of the Force Science Research Center, argue that ‘the truth almost always lies deeper than the video,’ while a more suspicious group of commenters debates the William Cardenas case for all the brass to see.
