Opinion: Bedtime for Bonzo

It was a brief exchange in Thursday’s Republican presidential debate, but a depressing one: Jim VandeHi (not moderator Chris Matthews, as I originally posted) asked if any of the candidates didn’t believe in evolution and three – Sam Brownback, Mike Huckabee and Tom Tancredo -- raised their hands.

If even a former university professor like the pope can cast aspersions on evolution, I suppose it’s not surprising that three politicians would diss Darwin, especially when polls show that a majority of Americans believe (or say they believe) that “God created humans in their present form.” Maybe we should be grateful that only three hands were raised.
