There’s more reaction to last week’s Metrolink disaster in Thursday’s Letters to the editor.
Three readers, including the president of the Association of American Railroads, suggest how officials might make train travel more safe in the future.
Three more were moved by the plight of Metrolink spokesperson Denise Tyrrell, who resigned her post on Monday after stating that a Metrolink engineer was responsible for the accident--some believe, prematurely. Jon Rowe, of Costa Mesa, writes:
My hat is off to Denise Tyrrell. It’s obvious that her Metrolink bosses are more concerned about her straight talk providing ammunition for the coming lawsuits that about being candid and responsible to the public that they serve. Tyrrell showed great courage at a time of great tragedy, and paid the price.
Redondo Beach’s Mary Blake, who works in public relations, sees it differently:
I applaud her desire to ‘rebuild public trust’ and ‘be honest and upfront,’ but I am dismayed by her failure to control an apparently emotional reaction to an issue that has significant legal liability ramifications for her employer.
