I wish I hadn’t gotten rid of that pinstriped suit. I’m going into the banking business!

Now that the U.S. has virtually nationalized pieces of the banking industry, that makes me, as a bona fide U.S. citizen, a bona fide banker.

Now obviously the government already knew how deserving I am of the task it’s put upon me. I’ve had hundreds of hours of training -- during those marathon summer-long Monopoly games, who was always unanimously acclaimed as the banker? Moi. And why?

I handled the bank’s money scrupulously and fairly. I paid and collected promptly, which is more than can be said for larger institutions. I counted change swiftly, thanks to parallel careers of playing grocery store and selling lemonade. I did not wishfully confuse $5 with $500, again unlike some larger institutions.

In one particular I was like the bankers at the larger institutions -- I too played a get-out-of-jail-free card.
