I was waiting for the primary election campaign in California to finally get, um, interesting. Sure, there was the whole puzzling dust-up between GOP gubernatorial candidates Meg Whitman and Steve Poizner, but the “FCINO” ad (rolls off the tongue just as easily as “RINO,” doesn’t it?) put out by U.S. Senate hopeful Carly Fiorina against one of her Republican rivals, former U.S. Rep. Tom Campbell, is positively ... awesome! After all, our state is in too much of mess for anyone to fix, so the candidate who makes us laugh the most has already done more for Californians than anyone in Washington or Sacramento.

Have a look for yourself:

Seriously, though, you have to wonder what was the point of using sheep in the first place (and whether anyone at the Fiorina campaign is familiar with the legend of chupacabra). One colleague who watched the video got the impression that Fiorina expects true, fiscally conservative Republicans to rigidly conform to the party’s ideology as if they were easily-herded sheep. If you’ve got your own interpretation, feel free to share it and any other impressions you have about the ad as a comment.
