In Sacramento, Senate Democrats passed a single-payer healthcare bill. And the governor put a new video clip in his Capitol DVD player.

Two candidates moved closer to joining the attorney general’s race as Republican John Eastman quit his job as dean of Chapman Law School and Democratic Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Hillsborough) sent signals that she also was preparing to run.

Meanwhile, San Francisco Supervisor Michela Alioto-Pier has dropped out of the race for insurance commissioner.
