Meg Whitman sat down recently for a rare interview with a journalist from the state Capitol press corps, broadcast Sunday on Sacramento TV station KCRA.

The station’s Kevin Riggs pushed the gubernatorial candidate on allegations from her campaign that rival Steve Poizner should have his head checked, after he referred to the FBI an e-mail from team Whitman suggesting he drop out of the race.

Said Whitman: ‘My view is common sense has got out the window a little bit on this one.’

Riggs also asked Whitman about her campaign declining an offer to debate Poizner at the upcoming California Republican Party Convention. The candidates will instead debate at a smaller venue later this year.

‘I did not know that there was supposed to be a deadbeat – debate’ at the convention, Whitman said. ‘Let’s stick with what we have got. March, April, May, we have plenty of time to debate.’
