Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger was touting his initiative to stem the elimination of jobs from California this morning when he was asked about the loss of a very specific job -- the one his wife, Maria Shriver, used to have as a television journalist at NBC.

Schwarzenegger took the bait, taking a swipe at NBC in the process.

‘She lost her job unfairly because of me running for governor,’ Schwarzenegger said, discussing his initiative to create new jobs at REC Solar, an installer of solar panels based in San Luis Obispo.

‘I think maybe if I would have been a Democrat, she wouldn’t have lost her job. But that’s another thing. I don’t want to get into that and accuse NBC of being political in that area.’

Too late.

Schwarzenegger added ruefully, ‘She made a good salary, and I am not making any money [with] what I am doing right now.’
