Mike Gatto opens lead in Assembly race

Attorney Mike Gatto, a former aide to Rep. Brad Sherman (D-Sherman Oaks) holds a wide lead over two Democratic challengers in a race to fill a vacant Glendale-area Assembly seat.

Gatto leads Glendale school board member Nayiri Nahabedian by more than 2,000 votes out of more than 27,000 votes counted thus far. With 61% of the vote tallied, Gatto has 30.7% to Nahabedian’s 23.1%. A third Democrat, Chahe Keuroghelian, has 14.1% of the vote.

The top Democratic vote-getter will face Republican Sunder Ramani in a June 8 runoff.

The 43rd Assembly District includes the city of Glendale, most of Burbank and the neighborhoods of North Hollywood, Silver Lake and Valley Village.
