Two legislative seats were up for grabs Tuesday, but both will ultimately be decided in June 8 runoff elections. In Los Angeles, attorney Mike Gatto bested two other Democrats to fill an Assembly vacancy. In Riverside County, Bill Emmerson (R-Redlands) was the top vote getter in the race to replace John Benoit.

Seema Mehta reports that ‘birthers’ and tea parties don’t mix -- at least when it comes to the U.S. Senate race. An activist who has challenged President Obama’s citizenship had her invitation to speak to a tea party rally pulled at the request of the GOP candidates for U.S. Senate.
