Sex offenders will be barred from living within half a mile of their child victims under a measure that Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed into law. Sen. Tony Strickland (R-Thousand Oaks) sponsored SB 1253 after a Ventura father complained that his daughter’s molester had moved just 715 feet away when released on probation.

‘The governor signed this bill because he believes that sex offenders should not be allowed to live close to their victims,’ said Rachel Arrezola, a spokeswoman for Schwarzenegger.

The measure takes effect Jan. 1.

‘These children deserve to feel safe in their own neighborhood, and we need to do all we can to protect them,’ Strickland said.
