State Sen. Dave Cox (R-Fair Oaks), who once served as Republican leader of the state Assembly, has passed away at the age of 72.

Cox died Tuesday after a 13-year battle with prostate cancer, according to a statement from his family.

The statement called Cox “a devoted family man. He always found time to serve his community and constituents. Dave took great pride in public service and making government work for the people it serves.”
