Democratic gubernatorial nominee Jerry Brown, who launched his first campaign ad Monday, said the $100 million GOP candidate Meg Whitman has spent on her campaign has had a numbing effect on voters.

‘People have stopped listening,’ Brown said while talking to reporters after a Sacramento campaign stop Monday. ‘And there’s nothing worse for a political candidate [than] to have the voters stop listening. And she may have reached that point.’

Brown answered questions about his ties to labor as the Whitman campaign has charged that the attorney general is ‘bought and paid for’ by organized labor.

‘There’s no question California voters are looking for the candidate who can best create jobs,’ said Whitman spokeswoman Sarah Pompei. ‘And Meg’s growing support is proof that her message is resonating with voters. They want a candidate who isn’t bought and paid for by the unions. They want someone who is only going to be looking out for the best interests of Californians.’

‘Definitely, I’m more simpatico,’ Brown said. ‘I’m more in line with working people.’
