Tom Waits, who this morning was officially confirmed as an inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, released a statement regarding the news. The singer, 61, spent his formative musical years in early ‘70s Los Angeles; he lived in Echo Park and had a regular gig at the Troubadour. He will join Alice Cooper, Neil Diamond, Darlene Love, and Dr. John in Cleveland’s musical mausoleum.

Said Waits: “I am still recovering from the news. I never really cared about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame…but now I am surprised to discover how much I DO care.”
