Editor’s note: Every week, our colleagues at Brand X’s L.A. Unheard column unearth one of L.A.’s best undiscovered acts.

The band: Wake Up Lucid, a trio of cousins led by singer-guitarist Ryan Baca.

The sound: For those still reeling from the White Stripes’ split, Wake Up Lucid is here to help ease the pain with savage guitar riffs and thunderous drums coated in garage grit. “I want to howl like the wind tonight,” Baca sings on “You & I,” and for five too-short songs, his weathered vocals do just that.

The details: The ‘Sugar’ EP was released this week, with a celebratory show scheduled at the Bootleg Theater on Wednesday night. If you can’t make it, Wake Up Lucid will be back shortly: Brand X can exclusively report that the band will hold down the Silverlake Lounge’s free Monday residency in April.

The rest: Visit Brand X to download two tracks from the band.
