Star Wars: Spike TV is airing the first three (or the last three) installments of the science fiction saga, beginning with 1977’s ‘Star Wars IV: A New Hope,’ (9 a.m. and 6 p.m.) starring Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill. Followed by 1980’s ‘Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back’ (Noon and 9 p.m.) and 1983’s ‘Star Wars VI: Return of the Jedi’ (3 p.m. and midnight).
It’s a Wonderful Life: James Stewart plays small-town dreamer George Bailey who deferred one big dream after another to stay home, marry a local girl and run the family business, when, as he’s facing financial ruin, he’s pulled from suicidal despair by an angel who shows him what a terrible place the world would be if he’d never lived. Donna Reed, Henry Travers and Lionel Barrymore star in director Frank Capra’s 1946 classic (8 p.m. NBC).
A Christmas Story: TBS begins its annual 24-hour Christmas marathon of this 1983 holiday treat starring Peter Billingsley and Darren McGavin (Every two hours beginning at 8 p.m.).
12 Men of Christmas: A public-relations executive (Kristin Chenoweth) uses her media savvy to stir up excitement in a small Montana town in this 2009 TV comedy (9 p.m. Lifetime).
