Tracee Ellis Ross, who starred in the former CW comedy ‘Girlfriends,’ will star in a new comedy for BET that will increase the network’s move into original scripted programming.

The new comedy, ‘Reed Between the Lines,’ will feature Ross as a psychologist adept in her job but more frazzled when dealing with her family. Malcolm-Jamal Warner (‘The Cosby Show’) will costar as her husband, an English teacher.

The series, scheduled to air in October, will join ‘The Game’ and ‘Let’s Stay Together,’ the popular comedies which have both been renewed.

BET executives announced the show Tuesday during its upfront presentation in Los Angeles.
