SoCal Connected: This new episode of the local news magazine series documents Wal-Mart’s efforts to move into spaces vacated by Mervyns and other retailers (8:30 p.m. KCET)

CSI: NY:
The discovery of a beautiful young woman’s body in a stolen Ferrari leads Mac (Gary Sinise) and the team to a family of car thieves in this new episode (9 p.m. CBS).

Dateline NBC:
This new episode recalls an incident in which three people died during a retreat held by self-help author James Arthur Ray (9 p.m. NBC).

Supernatural:
Sam (Jared Padalecki) follows a lead in a case that appears identical to one he solved as a youngster, because it’s the same culprit, a demon (Jewel Staite) who kills thugs. Jensen Ackles co-stars in this new episode which he also directed (9 p.m. KTLA).

Top Secret Recipe:
In each episode of this new series, Todd Wilbur investigates an iconic American recipe and attempts to re-create it better than the original (9 p.m. CMT).

Say Yes to the Dress:
A search for a gown gets glitzy when consultant Kelly Rippa arrives in the season premiere (9 p.m. TLC).

Sanctuary:
With the arrival of Hollow Earth refugees, balance is severely upset in the season premiere (10 p.m. Syfy).

The Exorcist:

Linda Blair stars as possessed youngster, whose mother (Ellen Burstyn) enlists the help of a Jesuit priest to save her from a terrifying demon in this 1973 horror classic (6 and 10:30 p.m. BBC America).
