Jamie Lee Curtis made a bold return to network TV on Tuesday night with a guest spot on CBS’ long-running drama ‘NCIS’ and provided a kick in the pants to the police procedural’s long-simmering sexual tension with star Mark Harmon.

Curtis’ guest spot helped make ‘NCIS’ the most-viewed show Tuesday night, with 19.55 million viewers.

After eight and a half seasons and more than 200 episodes, it seems like Special Agent Gibbs (Harmon) may finally find himself a love interest. Curtis, who’s known more for her Activia yogurt commercials than her acting roles these days, made her first appearance in a planned two-episode arc as Dr. Samantha Ryan of the PsyOps Division. She and Harmon played a betrothed couple in the 2003 movie ‘Freaky Friday,’ and it appears they may hook up again.

At the end of the much-buzzed-about episode, Ryan, who had spent the episode investigating a case with Gibbs, called him in the middle of the night and suggested they get breakfast together.

‘Are you asking me on a date, Ryan?’ Gibbs asked.

‘It’s the middle of the night, Gibbs. You tell me,’ she responded.

If the two do hook up, it will be a welcome change of pace for the character who has had four wives (one dead, the rest divorced) and no decent romantic prospects during the entire run of the show. Another positive development for the character is Ryan’s hair color. While his ex-wives all had red hair, as did his (deceased) first wife, Ryan is completely gray.

The second part of Curtis’ story will air next week.
