Back in 1991, Earvin “Magic” Johnson, below, made “The Announcement” that he had contracted HIV. The basketball great’s startling revelation and his remarkable journey in the two decades since are revisited in this documentary. (ESPN, 6 p.m.; ESPN2, ?8 p.m.)

Livin’ large: Asa, Golnesa, Mike, Sammy, Reza and Mercedes are the “Shahs of Sunset” — six thirty-something, good-life loving, conspicuously consuming members of Beverly Hills’ Persian-American community — in this new unscripted series.

MONDAY

Since the days of King Midas at least, humankind has had a love affair with “Gold.” This new special tracks that most precious of metals from the mines of South Africa to the markets of New York and London to a jewelry store near you.

TUESDAY


Clothes encounters: Aspiring designers, mentored by the likes of Jessica Simpson and Nicole Richie, get the chance to take their creations from the runway directly to retail in the reality competition “Fashion Star,” hosted by Elle Macpherson.

WEDNESDAY

“South Park”

famously knocks out each new episode in the six days before it airs. So at press time, there’s precious little we can tell you about the animated series’ 16th-season premiere, except that it will almost certainly be inappropriate.

THURSDAY

Ashley Judd, below, kicks butt and takes names, then kicks more butt and takes more names as a worried mother — and former CIA operative — whose son has gone “Missing” in this new action drama. “Game of Thrones’” Sean Bean also stars.

FRIDAY

Faith and begorrah! Just in time for St. Patrick’s Day, Adrian Pasdar is out “Chasing Leprechauns” in this made-for-cable fable, while Billy Zane fears the “Leprechaun’s Revenge” in this new terror tale. (Hallmark, 8 and 10 p.m.; Syfy, 9 p.m.)
