It might just seat 7,000, depriving it of the most elite boxing shows, but the Home Depot Center’s tennis venue in Carson has emerged as a favorite destination of pugilism’s hard-core fans.

Not only do they love the ‘boxing beneath the stars’ element of outdoor fights that compares favorably to the glory days of the big bouts in the 1970s and early 1980s at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, but the dramatic main-event action in two shows this year has been compelling.

In March, Israel Vazquez capped a stirring, come-from-behind effort to score a crucial 12th-round knockdown that proved decisive against Rafael Marquez. And Saturday, Pomona’s ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley rediscovered his knockout punch in the final second of the 12th, flooring super-welterweight Ricardo Mayorga as the bell rang.
