CHICAGO -- Sad to say, but the history of the Cubs is synonymous with losing. The team hasn’t won the World Series in a century. So no matter how well the Cubs might be playing at the moment, pessimism is always one loss away.

Thus, it’s no surprise that after the Dodgers’ 7-2 win in Game 1 of the National League Divisional Series here at Wrigley Field, Chicago’s media were quick to see the glass half-empty again.

In an entry titled ‘Now You’re Two Games from 101 Years,’ the Chicago Tribune’s Steve Rosenbloom wrote in his RosenBlog today that ‘this might not be the end of the world, but Cub fans can see it from here.’

‘The Cubs spent six months working and hitting and pitching and fielding and sweating to get home-field advantage in the playoffs, and they gave it away in five innings,’ he wrote.

Over at the rival Sun-Times, the newspaper wrote what many in Chicago were no doubt feeling this morning: ‘Uh-oh.’

‘If this is what the rest of the Cubs’ postseason is going to look lilke, it’s going to be a short playoff run,’ it said.

‘And a long century.’
