Baron Davis fielded questions from a European reporter about politics and Barack Obama after most of his teammates had cleared out of the locker room after yet another second-half collapse by the Clippers in a 106-88 loss to the Lakers on Wednesday at Staples Center.

Unfortunately, there was that bothersome matter of the game itself. Davis went seven for 21 from the field, scoring 17 points, and had seven assists and four rebounds in 35-plus minutes.

‘Getting (Marcus) Camby out there helps,’ said Davis, who had no points in the fourth quarter. ‘We’re still trying to figure out who we are, our rhythm, our identity. I think it’s coming along. We’ve just got to play hard and learn from this. Take this as another learning step. Take a page out of the Laker book and continue to move forward.’

Then there is the matter of starting 0-5.

‘It’s basketball. We’ve got 77 more games left,’ Davis said. ‘They’ll be all right. It’s all on me. It’s all on me. That’s what they brought me here for.’

Clippers’ Coach Mike Dunleavy spoke about the second-half collapse.

‘Whether it’s fatigue or whatever, we started settling or sometimes maybe it was selfish,’ he said. ‘Somebody hadn’t had a shot in awhile and said, ‘I need a shot.’ I’m going to look at the film tonight. We’ll go over it tomorrow and start pointing out situations.’
