While the soccer world has been focusing on David Beckham’s attempts to wriggle out of his Galaxy contract and join AC Milan full-time, the prospect of Landon Donovan following suit and abandoning Los Angeles for Bayern Munich has been largely overlooked.

That might change soon.

On Thursday, Bayern Munich’s official website featured an interview with former German international standout and current Bayern Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. Here are two of the questions and answers:

Q: What do you think of Landon Donovan so far?

Rummenigge: He’s an extra option, which is what [Coach] Juergen [Klinsmann] wanted. We’ll have to decide what to do in the next few weeks. We have some critical games approaching, and that’ll show whether he can help us. That’s the decisive factor.

Q: Can you imagine L.A. Galaxy allowing both Donovan to join Bayern and David Beckham to sign for AC Milan?

Rummenigge: I don’t know. AC Milan rang up yesterday with the same question. They’re obviously doubtful whether Galaxy would let both go. But if I know my Americans, it probably comes down to the price.

Apparently Rummenigge understands Galaxy owner AEG very well. Click here to read the complete interview:
