USC’s football recruiting class grew to 18 players today after the school received a signed national letter of intent from defensive back Jawanza Starling.

Starling, from Tallahassee, Fla., announced Wednesday that he would attend USC, but Coach Pete Carroll could not officially count him as a member of the incoming class until the school received his letter of intent. The addition of Starling gives the Trojans’ 2009 class seven players from states other than California.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Starling played at Lincoln High School, where he was a teammate of USC cornerback T.J. Bryant.

‘I told him how it was here,’ Bryant said Wednesday. ‘I’m looking forward to playing with him.’
