Sweet 16 teams get their report cards

The Sweet 16 matchups have yet to play out on the basketball court but a report issued today shows which teams are winners -- and which are losers -- in the classroom.

Duke, Villanova and North Carolina lead the pack with NCAA Graduation Success Rates between 85% and 90%, according to the Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sport at the University of Central Florida.

The scores aren’t so good for Missouri and Connecticut, both in the 30% range. Arizona comes in last at 20%.

The institute also released statistics showing that teams in the women’s Sweet 16 performed better in school.

‘Race remains an ongoing academic issue because of the continued gap between graduation rates for white and African-American student-athletes,’ said Richard Lapchick, the institute’s director. ‘The good news is that the GSR rates for both whites and African Americans are going up and the gap has narrowed slightly.’
