A lawsuit has been filed against former USC defensive line coach Dave Watson, laist.com reported. The suit results from an incident in May 2008 when Watson’s car struck the car of the plaintiff, Alaric Valentin. Valentin’s suit holds the university as well as a local car dealership accountable.

The suit claims that Watson was on Vicodin when the accident occurred and blamed the university, who issued the car to Watson, for alleged negligence regarding his drug habit. The car was lent to the university by South Bay Chrysler-Plymouth-Jeep.

University officials think the university does not belong in the suit because Watson was not working and was on his personal time when the accident occurred. The suit alleges that Watson had files in his car relating to USC football.
