PHOENIX - Dodgers starting pitcher Hiroki Kuroda was hit in the head by a line drive hit by the Arizona Diamondbacks’ Rusty Ryal in the sixth inning tonight at Chase Field.

Kuroda remained on the ground for several minutes until he was lifted on to a stretcher before a hushed crowd of 42,058. All of the Dodgers’ fielders, including Manny Ramirez and other outfielders, stood on the pitcher’s mound as trainers attended to Kuroda.

The ball appeared to hit Kuroda squarely in the right temple. There was no immediate word on his condition.
