USC won’t be the only team with a hint of quarterback controversy at the Coliseum on Saturday.

San Jose State arrives with a competition of its own, senior Kyle Reed battling Jordan La Secla, a junior from Newbury Park, for time behind center.

Unlike the Trojans, who named freshman Matt Barkley as the starter over Aaron Corp last week, the Spartans are taking a wait-and-see attitude.

Coach Dick Tomey said today that both of his quarterbacks will play in the season opener.

‘As to which one takes the first snap, I don’t know that,’ Tomey said.
