Jordan Congdon will be attempting field goals and extra points for USC for the first time when the Trojans open their season Saturday against San Jose State.

But Congdon is no rookie.

The fifth-year senior transferred to USC after two seasons at Nebraska, where he made 19 of 23 field-goal attempts as a freshman in 2005 and five of seven as a sophomore in 2006.

“I’ll take the same things I had back there at Nebraska and transfer them over here,” Congdon said.

Junior college transfer Jake Harfman has a stronger leg than Congdon, so he will handle kickoffs.

But Congdon said he was capable of more than chip shots.

“I feel real comfortable from 45 yards in,” he said. “Anything farther than that, I have the leg strength but not the consistency yet.”
