Finally, some good news from the Dodgers: Vin Scully will be back next year for his 61st season with the team.
That’s not a surprise. Bill Plaschke reported months ago that Scully would return. But it’s nice to get official confirmation.
Dodgers owner Frank McCourt said in a statement released by the team: ‘For six decades, Dodger fans have been truly blessed to have Vin Scully on the air and we are honored that he will be back in the booth again next season. He has been the one constant over the years and I know that our fans will cherish every game he calls.’
Well, at least McCourt got that right.
Scully, who celebrated his 82nd birthday on Sunday, was quoted in the statement as saying he was ‘very excited and optimistic’ about next season, adding ‘we’ll take it year-to-year after that.’
Scully will work all Dodgers home games and road games against NL West and AL West teams, and handle every inning of the club’s television broadcasts. He’ll also be heard on radio for the first three innings when those games are simulcast.
