South Korean Y.E. Yang and Irishman Padraig Harrington shared the lead midway through today’s second round of the Chevron World Challenge.

Yang, who won this year’s PGA Championship, and Harrington, who won that major tournament last year, were six under at the par-72 Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks. Harrington also won the Chevron World Challenge in 2002.

Three golfers were one shot back at five under par: former Masters champion Zach Johnson and Ian Poulter, who shared the first-round lead, and Kenny Perry, who charged into contention by shooting a three-under 33 on the front nine holes and then birdied the 11th and 12th holes as well.

The tournament, which pays $1.35 million to the winner, sponsors the Tiger Woods Foundation but Woods himself isn’t playing this year because of the personal problems that have engulfed the world’s No. 1 golfer.
