Coming off a tough loss at Notre Dame, UCLA isn’t getting any sort of reprieve against Colorado State -- at least not in the early going -- struggling to forge a 34-34 tie at halftime.

This was supposed to be a chance for the Bruins to improve and maybe even enjoy themselves on the way to a badly needed victory.

They opened an early lead with scoring from Malcolm Lee and freshman Reeves Nelson but could not put any real distance between themselves and Colorado State.

Then came an unfortunate series around the 8:00 mark, with point guard Jerime Anderson committing a hapless turnover and the Rams answering with an 8-0 run to take a five-point lead.

Guard Adam Nigon contributed five of those points with a three-pointer and a fastbreak layup.

UCLA came back, thanks mainly to a three-pointer and a couple of free throws from Lee, who scored 10 points in the first 20 minutes.
