Rickie Fowler and Dustin Johnson, golfing youngsters -- plus a John Daly update

On Wednesday, CBS hosted a reception for the media and amateurs who are playing at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. Showing up to represent the pro were 21-year-old Rickie Fowler from Murrieta and 25-year-old Dustin Johnson, who is the defending champion. Johnson wore a fashionable but sedate black suit and black shirt (no tie in a concession to being young).

Fowler bopped in wearing blue jeans, a windbreaker and very pointy white boots that made such a fashion statement one assumed they were made of alligator skin or something fancy, but no. Fowler said he got them cheap at Aldo’s, a discount shoe store. Note to Fowler’s golf clothing sponsor, Puma -- get the kid some ‘resort casual’ clothes for his meet-and-greets!

So far Thursday, Fowler is two-under after 16 holes at the Monterey Peninsula course and Johnson is three-under at Pebble Beach.

And John Daly? He’s struggling all of a sudden. Just had a double bogey five at the par-three 11th on the Monterey Shore course.
