UCLA forward Reeves Nelson will not play on this weekend’s trip to Arizona. Nelson, who suffered a partially torn retina, was medically cleared to play Wednesday but has chosen not to play. A UCLA official said it was a mutual decision between Nelson and Coach Ben Howland.

Nelson was injured when he fell to the floor against Washington State. He needed 15 stitches to close a cut over his right eye and later learned he had torn his retina in the left eye.

A UCLA official said it was not known whether Nelson would participate in next week’s Pacific 10 Conference tournament.

Nelson averages 11.0 points and 5.5 rebounds.

The Bruins are already without reserve center J’mison Morgan, who was suspended for one game after missing a meeting with the training staff.
