It is good to be a 19-year-old from Denmark who reached the finals of the U.S. Open last September, to have a sunny personality and the kind of fresh-faced good looks that make sponsors take notice.

Caroline Wozniacki is seeded second at the BNP Paribas Open, which has begun women’s main draw play Wednesday. (Jelena Dokic was bounced out in the first round of her fourth straight tournament this morning by Vera Dushevina of Russia.) Wozniacki spoke during a WTA Tour round-table discussion and she was most enthusiastic about her new contract with Rolex.

The watch the new Rolex replaced? ‘I actually had my own watch collection with a Danish company,’ she said. ‘So now I wear the Rolex instead.’ Wozniacki also said she had recently done a photo shoot with designer Stella McCartney for a collaborative collection of tennis clothing with Adidas. And on the ring finger of her right hand, Wozniacki had a big, sparkling diamond. ‘That was a present to myself,’ she said, making sure we knew it was not an engagement ring.
