Greg Pursley leads NASCAR West Series standings; Sergio Pena returns to Irwindale

Greg Pursley, a Canyon High of Canyon Country graduate, is tied for the lead in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West standings after finishing third in Thursday’s race at Phoenix International Raceway.

Pursley and David Mayhew are tied with 320 points after two races in the West Series season.

Eric Holmes, a driver from Escalon, won the West Series race at Phoenix.

Sergio Pena, who nearly won the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown in January, will make his return to Toyota Speedway at Irwindale in the NASCAR Super Late Model division on Saturday night.

Pena, a 17-year-old driver from New Jersey, finished second to NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Joey Logano in the Showdown at Irwindale. Pena is racing in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East. After two races, Pena is 20th in the East Series standings.
