Stars to appear at local baseball events this weekend

Southern California is set to host a couple of major baseball events this weekend: the Professional Baseball Scouts Foundation dinner and the West Coast Baseball Coaches Convention.

The Professional Baseball Scouts Foundation was established by former agent and current Chicago White Sox executive Dennis Gilbert to aid scouts who have fallen on tough times. The foundation is scheduled host its annual gala on Saturday night at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel. Rob Reiner, Larry King and Bob Uecker are slated to emcee the event, at which Brooks Robinson, Tom Seaver, Robin Yount and Joe Garagiola Sr. are to be among the honorees.

The West Coast Baseball Coaches Convention is set for Friday and Saturday at the Pechanga Resort and Casino. Former Dodgers catcher Steve Yeager, San Diego Padres bench coach Rick Renteria and Oakland Athletics first base coach Ty Waller are to be among the speakers offering coaching advice. Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Xavier Nady is also scheduled to attend.
