Super Bowl XLV ticket prices are way up in secondary ticket market

It could be a sign that the economy has recovered. Maybe it’s high demand. And perhaps a few ticket sellers might be fooling themselves just a bit.
Whatever the reason, StubHub officials are reporting that average ticket prices for Super Bowl XLV are more than 50% higher than last year, according to a report in the Sports Business Daily. As of Thursday, StubHub’s average sales price for Sunday’s Steelers-Packers matchup was $3,596; last year’s Saints-Colts matchup had an average price of $2,386.
The report said that ticket unit sales volume has been about the same as last year’s game, but the higher prices have created a gross sales revenue increase of more than 30%, with StubHub officials predicting Super Bowl XLV will become the company’s highest-grossing event ever at some point this weekend.
As of Friday morning, the cheapest Super Bowl ticket on StubHub is $1,950; the highest price for a single ticket appears to be $65,000.
Also in the report, ticket metasearch engine FanSnap showed 4,332 tickets available with an average price of $4,189 as of Thursday night. That’s 88% higher than the average price of $2,234 at the same time last year.
