Ralph Nader wants to ‘de-professionalize’ college athletes. His plan: Eliminate scholarships.
In a proposal obtained by the Associated Press on Thursday, ahead of its official release, Nader puts forth a plan that he says will restore academic integrity to collegiate sports by replacing college athletic scholarships with need-based financial aid.
Nader says the idea would reduce the ‘win-at-all-costs’ mentality of high school sports because the incentive of college scholarships will no longer be there.
The plan is being proposed through Nader’s League of Fans, a group whose goal is to reform sports.
