Nolan Ryan hospitalized with chest pain

Hall of Fame pitcher and Texas Rangers President Nolan Ryan has been hospitalized after experiencing chest pain.

The Rangers said in a statement Monday that Ryan, 64, is ‘resting comfortably’ and feeling better as he undergoes tests in a Houston hospital. He is expected to remain there for a few days.

Ryan, who became part-owner of the Rangers last summer, had been expected to throw out the ceremonial first pitch Tuesday night before the Angels-Rangers game in Anaheim. He also was scheduled to take part in a ceremony inducting Gene Autry, the late Angels owner, into the team’s Hall of Fame.

According to the Rangers’ news release, Ryan started feeling discomfort at his Georgetown home Sunday morning, which ‘is believed to be a recurrence of the heart condition which he has previously experienced.’

Ryan had a double-bypass operation in 2000, at which time doctors discovered another, undisclosed condition.
