TwitPic, the website that allows users to upload pictures and share them with followers on Twitter, has launched a new face-tagging feature.

TwitPic’s face tagging is quite similar to Facebook’s. On any picture users upload they can click an ‘Add/Edit Faces’ option below the image. From there, the user can click on the person’s face that they want to tag.

TwitPic then displays a box, allowing the user to add the person’s name and, if applicable, their Twitter username. The feature also includes an @reply box, so users can inform their friends that they were tagged in a photo.

Overall, the feature works quite well. In several of the images that I tagged I was pleasantly surprised by how seamless the feature was. A search feature would make it easier to find other faces in photos. It’s one of the key features that TwitPic, like the competition, is missing.

TwitPic’s addition of face tagging comes on the heels of its new events feature, which allows users to organize pictures into different groups. That feature works similarly to, and just as well as, Facebook’s albums.
