Javier Rivera, a 17-year-old Latino youth, was shot repeatedly at 6151 Prospect Ave. in Maywood, and died at 8:53 p.m. Jan. 31. Sheriff’s detectives called this killing a dispute over tagging territory. The suspect, Salvador Rodriguez, a 19-year-old Latino man and alleged member of a tagging crew, lived two blocks from victim Rivera, and the pair have known each other all their lives. Detectives said on this evening, suspect Rodriguez walked up to Rivera, who was standing in a driveway with friends, and shot him.

Suspect Rodriguez is not in custody, detectives said. He may be driving a white Honda Accord. Anyone with information is asked to call Sgt. Charles Morales, Sheriff’s Homicide, (323) 890-5500. Below is the suspect’s photo.
