Beginning this week, the Homicide Report will list homicides from Orange County each week, in addition to those from Los Angeles County.

Orange County has only a fraction of Los Angeles County’s per-capita homicide rate, and vastly fewer homicides are committed there than in Los Angeles County. This week there is only one entry on the list. Click below to view.

Tom Egan, a 40-year-old white man, was fatally shot in the torso Friday morning when he confronted a man robbing a cashier at a Home Depot store at 2782 El Camino Real in Tustin.

Egan, an assistant manager at the store, was a married father of two and retired Marine sergeant. The suspect was described as 6 feet tall and wearing a painter’s jumpsuit and dust mask. He was aided by a getaway driver and escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash. Previous LAT story.

Update: Police arrested parolee Jason Russell Richardson, 36, on Feb. 22 in connection to this homicide. LAT story
